Our Story

Welcome to Ms. Ellen’s Daycare, a trusted and established early learning center in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Our story began in 1978, when Ms. Ellen Turner first started offering child care in her home. In 1988, Ms. Ellen opened the doors of her center at 1503 West McNeese Street. Today, we are still operating in the same location with the same mission: that every child who walks through those doors finds an environment that is safe, loving, and set up for learning. 

After Ms. Ellen’s retirement, her daughter, Ms. Shellie Turner Young, assumed responsibility for day-to-day operations. Ms. Ellen’s Daycare is a close-knit community of dedicated early childhood professionals who understand that the first five years of a child’s life are the most important ones. 

We love being a trusted part of the community. Ms. Ellen’s Daycare strives to build partnerships with groups like the Volunteers of America and the United Way of Southwest Louisiana.
