Our Education Program
Ms. Ellen’s Daycare is a Type III center that works closely with the Louisiana Department of Education and the Calcasieu Parish School Board. We currently offer four private tuition classes and one public PreK class. We accept child care assistance.
At Ms. Ellen’s Daycare, we use two different curricula depending on the age group. Our infant through four year old classrooms build lessons using the Frog Street curriculum, which you can learn more about here. For our preK program, we use the DIG curriculum, which can be accessed here. We are supported in our curriculum training and development by the Louisiana Department of Education. We assess children regularly using the Teaching Strategies Gold framework (TS Gold), which helps us track each child’s progress in the many ways they are growing:
- fine and gross motor skills,
- language development,
- early literacy,
- early numeracy and math,
- social and emotional abilities,
- cognitive skills.
Every teacher at Ms. Ellen’s Daycare works a full-time schedule and is a career early childhood educator. All of our teachers work full-time, and hold both a Child Development Associate and Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate. Our teaching philosophy is that children deserve safe and secure attachments with their caregivers and that teaching is a career, not just a job. All teachers at Ms. Ellen’s Daycare have the autonomy to build their own classroom community using a curriculum that supports curiosity, projects, and real-world skills.
